Dear JHC,
My son, Harvey, was born on November 25, 1994 in Lumberton, North Carolina. Harvey appeared to be healthy when he was born, but when he was three months old he became very sick. The Doctors said that Harvey's heart was enlarged. In March, 1995 they sent him to Duke Childern's Hospital where he was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Harvey's heart stopped six times durring his stay in the PICU. The doctors soon informed us that if Harvey were to live, he would require a heart transplant ASAP. They said that if his heart stopped beating again, we would loose him. In fact, when Harvey opened his eyes the next morning, one doctor said he couldn't beleive he was still here. We told the Doctor it was not what he beleived, it was God's 'will' that would be done.
Harvey got sick again in December 1999. Harvey was five years old by then and he really did need a new heart. At 1:AM on Feburary 1, 2000 after a 4.5 hour operation, Harvey got his new heart. His new heart did great until April 15, 2002 when Harvey started having some stomach problems and was hospitalized on June 13, 2002 for blood work. Harvey is now seven years old and he has had his new heart for almost three years now. He is in the second grade and he loves attending school with his many friends. He also loves to play with his uncle Booker. They enjoy playing basketball, football and other sports. He likes to watch professional wrestling on Monday and Thursday nights. And he loves playing with his "Playstation" too. Harvey is just a sweet little seven year old boy who wants very much to live a normal life.
