Subject: Update on Makenzie
Hi Mack--hadn't talked to you guys in a while and just wanted to send you an update on Makenzie. We just got back from another trip to Pittsburgh which went very smoothly. Up and back in 4 days. Makenzie is finally making real progress again. If her lab work is okay on Monday she gets to try coming off of IV fluids--first time in 8 months. We are very excited about this as she will be able to go swimming without worry. That is about it from here---we just wanted to say hi and let you know Makenzie is doing very well. As always, we remember that we would never had made it this far without your help. Your work is amazing. Thank you again for everything you have done for us.

Hi Mack--just wanted to let you know we received Makenzies last grant check today--thank you again so much---we got back to VA a couple of days ago and are trying to settle back into a routine although we have to make many trips back--it is better to try and stay home some. Makenzie is okay--not the same little girl she was 7 months ago--but doing okay. Back on nightly IV fluids and tube feeds---but it doesnt slow her down. If you are ever up in the Roanoke area look us up---haha---I just put a bid in on a foreclosure house that is going to need a bunch of work--your specialty isnt it?. If we get it it actually makes our payments slightly less than now and at least we would have a place that was ours. As long as she stays semi-healthy I can put alot of manpower into it---kind of looking forward to it actually. I wanted to send you her new Easter picture too.
We will talk to you soon and always keep you updated--thanks as always for your help--you are lifesavers--- Cindy and Makenzie

Hi Mack-- just wanted to send you all an update on Makenzie. Overall she is doing mostly better. I dont think she is ever going to get back to being as good as she was before all of this happened but they are hopeful that she will. As for now she still requires 12 hours of IV fluids a day which stinks for her--but she takes it all in stride. Hard to believe we have been back in Pittsbirgh this long--in two weeks we will been here 6 months. We are trying to get back to VA by the end of the month, by Easter anyway, and try to manage her from there for a while--it will just be so nice to get back home. I just wanted to say thank you again for all of your help and let you know that if all goes well we wont be needing help anymore after this grant runs out--you all have been life savers. We are having a talk this week about giving Makenzie another 6 months--and if she doesn't get any better and is still requiring IVs that we may relist her for another transplant--but hopefully that just wont happen. Ill always keep you guys updated---here is her picture with the Easter Bunny---hope you all are doing well--we will talk to you soon---Cindy and Makenzie

Hi Mack--- just wanted to send you all an update on Makenzie. For the most part she is actually doing some better. Her transplanted bowel still isnt working like it should---but better than a few months ago. She will have to remain on daily IV fluids still for now--which is something we had hoped to never see again---but we will deal with it. They are starting to talk about letting is try to go home in 3 or 4 weeks if she will stay stable. She ended up with the flu last week---but she is getting over it rather easily with no major mishaps. Just wanted to say again thank you for your support. Hoping we wont need anymore help once this grant runs out for a long time. Makenzie has a long long way to go--and we arent exactly sure she will ever get back to where she was before all of this happened--but we know full well things could be a lot worse.
Her personality is still the same happy child we all know and love and for the most part she feels good--so we will just be patient. Just wanted to let you know how she was. Hope you all are doing well. We will keep in touch---thank you so much again---you have been a godsend to us---Cindy and Makenzie

Hi there-- just wanted to wish you all a Happy Belated Thanksgiving and send you an update on Makenzie. Things here continue to stay about the same. She in general feels better but we just arent getting her much better. She is now dealing with a virus that is making things difficult. She feels pretty good but cant get off of IV fluids more than about 2 hours a day right now---so very hard to believe seeing how she was just 2 months ago---then again, hard to believe we have already been in here for 2 months. She has been inpatient here now as long as she was for transplant which is crazy and no sign of going anywhere anytime soon. Such a mess because now my FMLA has run out and I have to quit work again and COBRA insurance and all of that. Days worth of paper work, but we have no choice so we will just do what we have to do. She learned to ride a bike (with training wheels) that the physical therapists brought down which was neat to watch. She will be 3 next Monday--we are having her a birthday party here next saturday---should be nice anyway. Well, Ill go--just wanted to let you know how things are here and thank you again for all you have done. This really blindsided us as we thought the worst was over---we were quite wrong about that--this has by far been worse that the actual transplant. Please continue to keep her in your prayers---Cindy and Makenzie

I will very cautiously say that Makenzies scope looked quite a bit better today. No where near looking good--but you could see actual tissue growing back in even the pictures. We probably wont get the biopsy back until tomorrow, but lets all just hope that it continues to grow and she doesnt start rejecting it again. Her Nana and Papaw are coming to see her tomorrow and she is looking forward to that. Thank you all for the continued prayers and support--she still has a loooooong way to go---- Cindy
