PO Box 774
Louisburg, NC 27549

Dear Mack,

It was good talking with you yesterday and I appreciate your consideration of our request to extend assistance to this family.

Steve has been incredibly blessed. His lungs have healed to the point that he was able to be switched to a smaller ventilator. This means that he can now leave his hospital room for the first time in a year and most importantly will be able to leave the hospital.
We are excited to report that All Children’s Hospital is working towards releasing Steve later this month. He is still in the intensive care unit and when he leaves the hospital his primary caregiver will be his mom, Ana. Ana will no longer have the advantage of nurses and doctors providing the 24 hour, 7 day a week care that he requires. His intensive care will become solely her responsibility.
The nurses have been training Ana on how to care for Steve after he leaves the hospital. His sister, Michelle, is 15 and is able to help her brother some but is currently attending high school full time. The father has not been here since October and has been unable to help financially. Ana is truly on her own.
Ana is hoping that she will be able to get some nursing relief from the local Hospice, however, it would not be enough to enable her to work at this time. Ana and Steve have called All Children’s Hospital home up until now but are in dire need of an apartment that is wheelchair accessible. At this point Ana has no income. She will continue to explore options of work that can be done from the home and her goal is to be able to take a job as soon as she can.

As a former teacher Ana is an intelligent, educated woman who takes pride in the belief that she will be able to provide for her family again soon. We are praying that your board will be able to help her until she can do that. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Maggie Caruso (family friend and translator)
